Statement of Purpose
Association of Biblical Pentecostals
The Association of Biblical Pentecostals exists to promote the recovery, reformation, defense, advancement, and worldwide proclamation of a thoroughly biblical, Christ-centered, and Spirit-filled Pentecostal faith.
To accomplish this purpose, the Association is committed:
1. To call Pentecostal believers, ministers, and churches to greater biblical and theological faithfulness, evaluating every doctrine, practice, ministry method, and spiritual experience by the authority of Scripture.
2. To promote the continuing reformation of Pentecostalism, confronting and correcting the influence of the Word of Faith movement, the prosperity gospel, aspects of the New Apostolic Reformation, manipulative ministry practices, and other teachings and practices that distort Scripture.
3. To develop a robust biblical and theological apologetic for post-conversion-initiation reception of the Holy Spirit and biblical spiritual experience, answering cessationist, anti-Pentecostal, and other theological criticisms through careful exegesis, historical awareness, intellectual honesty, and Christian charity.
4. To provide responsible biblical polemics against doctrinal error, clearly identifying, examining, and refuting teachings that depart from Scripture while treating those who hold differing views with fairness, respect, and a genuine desire for truth and restoration.
5. To educate, disciple, and equip believers for faithful Christian ministry through a robust, biblically centered college and graduate school that integrates the study and responsible use of biblical Greek and Hebrew throughout its curriculum.
6. To advance in-depth Pentecostal apologetics and theological education through seminars, regional gatherings, international conferences, publications, and other educational initiatives.
7. To raise strong, biblically grounded ministers of the gospel who faithfully proclaim Christ, serve the Church, and present biblical Pentecostal theology and practice to the world.
8. To expand the global reach of biblical Pentecostal teaching through digital media, including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, podcasts, and other platforms, producing accessible and engaging content that educates the Church and the wider world concerning a balanced, Christ-centered, and biblically faithful Pentecostalism.
9. To establish a theological journal and publishing house dedicated to biblical Pentecostalism, producing scholarly research, theological works, educational resources, position papers, and practical ministry materials that advance biblical truth and contribute meaningfully to the worldwide Christian conversation.
10. To cultivate an international network of biblically grounded Pentecostal leaders, fostering theological dialogue, ministry collaboration, mutual encouragement, shared resources, and cooperative efforts to advance biblical Pentecostalism throughout the world.
11. To formulate and maintain clear biblical and theological standards for Pentecostal faith and practice, producing position statements and educational resources that address significant doctrinal, ethical, and ministry-related questions confronting the Church.
12. To promote integrity, accountability, and servant leadership among Pentecostal ministers and churches, opposing spiritual abuse, financial exploitation, authoritarian leadership, moral compromise, and other practices that harm believers and dishonor the name of Christ.
13. To strengthen local churches by providing biblical consultation, ministry resources, leadership development, and theological guidance, helping congregations cultivate healthy, Christ-centered, and Spirit-filled communities.
14. To encourage and support biblical Pentecostal missions, evangelism, and church planting, proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ and establishing biblically grounded, Spirit-filled congregations throughout the world.
15. To preserve, examine, and responsibly interpret the biblical and historical heritage of Pentecostalism, encouraging scholarly research that distinguishes the movement’s genuine spiritual contributions from later doctrinal errors, excesses, and distortions.
In pursuit of these purposes, the Association seeks neither the uncritical defense of everything historically associated with Pentecostalism nor the abandonment of the core Pentecostal conviction regarding the post-conversion-initiation reception of the Holy Spirit. Rather, it seeks the recovery and advancement of a thoroughly biblical, Christ-centered, and Spirit-filled theological perspective that faithfully serves the Church and bears witness to the truth of the gospel throughout the world.
